when most people think of japanese food, they get mental images of sushi and other delicate little anal-retentive bite-sized bits of harmoniously arranged combinations of foods representing japan’s deep connection with nature and blah, blah, blah. i like all that stuff too, but when i’m hungry, this is what i want to eat:

it’s a big, fat bowl of rice, topped with grilled chicken and onions and covered with egg. how can you go wrong with that? answer: it’s impossible to go wrong with that.
